A robin grows up....

This morning as I was typing I noticed a bird in my maple tree. It looked like a robin. I had never noticed a nest in that tree, but it looked as if a female robin was sitting on a nest. After a bit, another robin came by to feed this bird. I finally investigated. Turns out it is a "teenage" robin. Almost ready to be on its own, but still being fed by mama bird. The funny thing is that the robin nest was in a pear tree on the other side of the house. I guess the eggs hatched and the adolescent birds moved to a new tree. Weird. A pair of sparrows has now built a new nest in the pear tree, so it will be interesting to watch for those little eggs to hatch.

It's not uncommon for mama bird to move the newly mobile chicks away from the nest site. Staying in one place too long makes them a bit to vulnerable to predation. (Yes, I had way too much time on my hands at one point and spent many, many hours observing, photographing, and reading all about it. LOL)

Speaking of birds, I saw a Turkey Vulture today. Had to look it up to figure out what the heck it was!
